About this event

REGISTRATION CLOSES AT 3PM ON THURSDAY, NOVEMBER 4. PLEASE REMEMBER TO USE YOUR SCHOOL-ISSUED EMAIL ADDRESS. ZOOM LINK WILL BE SENT 1-2 HOURS PRIOR TO THE START OF THE EVENT.

We’re inviting environmental, chemical, and civil engineering students to learn about future career opportunities at LA Sanitation & Environment.  Hear from recent hires and program managers, learn about our hiring process, and gain an understanding of our vast network of exciting projects across the City of Los Angeles.  This is a free virtual event.  Learn more about us on our website and view our video!

Agenda:

8:30am Informal Networking (optional)

Grab yourself coffee and a bagel, then turn on your camera and mic to introduce yourself to everyone on the call. Don't worry - we won't put you through any uncomfortable icebreakers!

9:00am Event Welcome

LASAN Assistant Director, Alex Helou (a Howard University graduate) will welcome students and share his experiences.

9:05am Introduction to LA Sanitation & Environment

We'll introduce you to the team and offer a brief overview of our organization including mission, vision, and culture.

9:20am Choose your informational session

You can select from Clean Water, Solid Resources, or Watershed Protection. We'll leave time for Q&A.

9:50am Finance and Regulatory Affairs information session

The work of these divisions spans all LASAN programs. Either is a great place for diversifying knowledge and skills... from climate change to biosolids to capital investments to budgets, our speakers will explain how their engineering background has given them a competitive edge.

10:20am Employment Opportunities

LASAN's Project Green Leadership (PGL) program hires part-time Student Engineers and full-time Environmental Engineering Associates. We'll help you understand the roles as well as our City hiring process.

11:15am Choose your informational session

We know it's tough to choose just one so this is your opportunity to learn more about another LASAN program. You can select from Clean Water, Solid Resources, or Watershed Protection. We'll leave time for Q&A.

11:45am Choose your panel

Select the topic that most interests you. Our team will walk you through LASAN's efforts on these programs and take your questions.

A - Climate Change - LASAN is recognized as a national leader in environmental services and programs and is a critical partner in the City's climate response. We'll explain our emissions, biodiversity, environmental justice, and resiliency programs from an engineering perspective.

B - Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion - Racial equity, gender equity, cultural sensitivity, inclusion, affirmative action... they've become buzz words thrown around by media, but we take them seriously. Join us for a robust discussion of LASAN's efforts and successes while also sharing your own perspectives on the topic.

12:15pm Closing Thoughts

LASAN's Chief Sustainability Officer, Doug Walters, will review the key points made throughout the day and leave you with his thoughts to inspire you as you make choices that determine your career path.

12:30pm Virtual Tour

Information about the virtual tour will be shared in late October.

Recruiting Information

Engineer Day is an information session and resumes/applications can not be accepted at this event.  LA Sanitation & Environment only accepts applications for Student Engineer and Environmental Engineering Associate at on-campus recruiting events and at engineering conferences, or via email when positions are posted on our website.  The City's hiring freeze has been lifted and many part-time and full-time engineering positions are available.

FAQs

What is the dress code?

Since this is a virtual event, we'd like you to be comfortable but still professional.

Do I have to stay online for the full 4 hours?

We certainly hope that you will stay with us for the entire time because our team has put a great deal of effort into creating panels and presentations that will appeal to our audience of engineering college students. However, you are welcome to log in and out as you wish. Because we can only have 300 people in the event at one time, if you log out, there is no guarantee that you will be able to log back in.

I've already graduated. Can I still attend?

This event is tailored to undergraduate, graduate, and Ph.D. students across the US seeking entry level engineering positions.

Can I give my registration to someone else?

No, registration is non-transferable. The event sells out every year, so please let us know if you're unable to make it so we can invite someone from the waitlist. Duplicate and invalid registrations will be deleted and refused entry. You must use a valid school-provided email address to register or your registration will be cancelled.

Will the event be recorded?

The virtual event will be recorded to potentially be used in LA Sanitation & Environment's promotional materials, website, and YouTube account. Registering for this event includes your acceptance of our photo/video release.

What if I can't make it to the virtual event?

Please let us know as soon as possible.  We usually have a wait list of more than a dozen people who would like to attend if others cancel.

How can I contact the organizer with any questions?

Please email our Project Green Leadership (PGL) Coordinators with any questions.

We look forward to seeing you in November!

As the lead agency for the City’s environmental programs and initiatives, LA Sanitation & Environment protects public health and the environment through the administration and management of three program areas: Clean Water (Wastewater), Solid Resources (Solid Waste Management) and Watershed Protection (Stormwater). These infrastructure programs collect, treat, recycle, and dispose of the solid and liquid waste generated by the nation’s second largest city of more than four million residents. Through these essential public service programs, LASAN delivers a triple bottom line of economic, environmental, and social benefits that sustain the quality of life in Los Angeles. For more information, please visit www.lacitysan.org or call our 24-hour Customer Care Center at 1-800-773-2489.
